Pastels with Maxine Thompson
A Tour of the Pousadas of Portugal

Pousadas are national historic monuments that have been tastefully refurbished into small luxury hotels - rural, quiet, old-fashioned, traditional and very beautiful –very much authentically Portuguese. Experiencing Portugal through its’ Pousadas not only envelopes you in soft luxury and elegance, but brings the local culture and specific region literally into your ‘home’ of the moment. Their locations and structures transport you beyond the normal tourist track and plunge you into a more intense experience in less traveled and exceptional places with fascinating side stories and local people to enjoy. Most of the hotels have the added attraction of Spa facilities and pools.

The Portuguese people are undoubtedly the warmest in Europe,

Their country boasts some of the most unspoiled countryside and breathtaking antiquities.

We take full advantage of exceptional locations to paint what we see.

It’s easy to extend this trip with a visit to Lisbon and Porto at each end of the tour.
